🌸 Handcrafted Beauty Inspired by a Sketch | Happy Birthday Card

Sometimes, inspiration comes at just the right time—and this card was born from a sketch challenge shared by A Cherry on Top. I love how sketches can act as a creative springboard while still allowing for complete artistic freedom. This soft and floral birthday card is the perfect example of mixing structure with soul.

✨ The Inspiration: A Cherry on Top Sketch Challenge

Weekly Sketch 2/27/25

This week, I took on a card sketch challenge from the lovely community at A Cherry on Top. Sketches are a great way to break through creative blocks or experiment with new layouts, and this one was no exception! It encouraged layers, texture, and a focal cluster—and I had the perfect products in mind.

🎨 Design Details:

Color Palette:
Soft Petal Pink, Mossy Meadow green, and muted pinks—balanced with leafy greens and subtle sparkle.

Key Elements:

  • Background: I started with a textured white cardstock, subtly embossed for extra dimension.

  • Layers: Floral Charm DSP sets the tone, paired with torn edge Petal Pink cardstock and a soft vellum overlay to create visual softness.

  • Focal Point: The large floral die cut, colored in soft Petal Pink and Mossy Meadow, is popped up on dimensionals for that extra wow.

  • Sentiment: The “Happy Birthday” is hand-stamped on a stitched banner for that crisp finishing touch.

  • Details: Hand-tied white starter ribbon, leafy die cuts, and tiny embellishments pull everything together.

🌿 Techniques Used:

  • Layering DSP with torn edges for a worn but whimsical look

  • Using vellum to soften and add depth without overpowering the focal image

  • Stampin’ Blends markers for smooth floral coloring

  • Die cutting greenery to create texture and flow

  • Double bow accent for a handcrafted touch

💬 A Note from the Craft Table:

Following a sketch doesn’t mean copying line for line—it’s about making the layout your own. I interpreted the sketch with floral flair, layering, and a romantic color story that fits my style and the Celestial Wolf aesthetic. This card was a joy to make, and even more exciting to share!

Whether you’re crafting along with challenges or just looking for some soft inspiration, I encourage you to let your heart lead your hands. 💕
